Ideas, inspiration, and everything in between

A card map is a simple sketch or diagram that shows where each element goes on your card — like a blueprint for your design. Whether you're a visual planner or just getting started, these layouts take the guesswork out of composition and help you create balanced, beautiful cards every time.

The Classic Layers

Start with a card base, add a slightly smaller mat layer, then a focal panel on top. This three-layer approach creates depth and frames your stamped image beautifully. Try varying the paper patterns and colors for endless combinations.

Pro tip: Leave a 1/4" border between each layer for a clean, polished look.

The Diagonal Split

Divide your card front diagonally — use patterned paper on one half and solid cardstock on the other. Stamp your focal image right across the seam so it ties both halves together. This layout adds energy and movement to any design.

Pro tip: Use a bone folder and ruler to score a crisp diagonal line before cutting.

The Banner Strip

Run a horizontal strip of patterned paper or ribbon across the lower third of your card. Place your sentiment on the strip and your focal image above it. Simple, clean, and endlessly versatile — this layout works for every occasion.

Pro tip: Washi tape makes a great quick banner strip and adds texture without bulk.

The Framed Window

Cut a rectangle or square window in the front panel of your card so the layer beneath peeks through. Stamp or color the inside layer with a coordinating image or pattern. The window creates a peek-a-boo effect that always delights the recipient.

Pro tip: Use a die cut machine for perfectly clean window edges every time.
